Tropicana Evansville hosted the 2016 Mid-States Poker Tour Indiana State Poker Championship during the weekend that just passed.


The venue overlapping the Kentucky border with the state attracted 340 players which are higher compared to 225 and 251 for 2014 and 2015. The tournament attracted many aces from the Midwest but in the end it was the turn of Earl Potter, the automobile worker aged 49, to win the prize at his own backyard. The winner told that he will give the entire earnings to his wife, which in any case he will have to do once she sees his picture posing with Tropicana Girls after he won the championship.

Post-match interview had the poker player telling “I’m feeling awesome,” who also took the winning prize of $82,450 home. He opined that he had a tough bunch of competitors but he was lucky to have beaten them.

He said that he got lucky quite a few times and also made the right decisions when he had to. The Toyota factory worker started playing poker at the young age of 10 with his grandmother but he only learned the learn no-limit Texas hold’em in 2006. In the last decade it was all recreational play but only in the beginning of this year he graduated his game by joining the MSPT.

Father of two, poker player Potter stood at the 27th spot in January at MSPT Tropicana Evansville Regional winning just $744 which was also his documented prize amount. He was very proud of wining the cash but not satisfied. . He said that he had high stakes at the regional but lost early because he was conservative and he did not really go in to the deep end though he was making money. Once he started to play aggressive it worked out and was winning more.
